Some background
The owners found the house in 2019 and saw the potential to create a contemporary house within its traditional structure. They project managed the complete redesign and renovation of the house; putting on a new roof, opening up the roof space in the living room, installing the wood burning stove, putting in a new kitchen, new bathrooms and completely redecorating. Outside, they removed a second building in the garden to create space for the pool and garden room, redesigned and landscaped the gardens…. huge thanks to the many people who worked so hard on this project; Jo and the Explorers Club team, Klaus and team, Jeremy and team, James and Jo, Sue, Hein, Phil and team, Martin, Raheem, Benjamin…..
Kumbuk House is named after the Kumbuk tree, found throughout India and Sri Lanka where the owners have spent a lot of time. They lived in India and have built and run three beachfront hideaways and one modern villa in Sri Lanka. Much of the furniture and many of the paintings in the house come from the owners’ travels in Sri Lanka and India.
